Consumer Unit Replacement in Penzance & Penwith

Overview

An outdated fuse board is one of the most common reasons homes fail an EICR or struggle to get buildings insurance. Replacing it with a modern consumer unit brings your installation up to current regulations and gives you the protection of RCD-covered circuits. As a NAPIT-registered electrician, I provide an Electrical Installation Certificate and a Building Control Compliance Certificate on completion.

What's involved

Assessment

I check the existing installation, the number of circuits, location of the board, and any access constraints before quoting.

Isolation and replacement

The supply is isolated, the old unit is removed, and the new consumer unit is fitted and wired. Where multiple units are being merged into one, this stage takes longer but the end result is tidier and more manageable.

Testing and certification

All circuits are tested to BS 7671. You receive an Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) and, as I am NAPIT-registered, I provide a Building Control Compliance Certificate - so the work is fully signed off without you needing to notify the council separately.

Typical Costs

from £300 £300–£650+

Price depends on the number of circuits, whether multiple units are being merged into one, and the location - a board at head height in an open cupboard is much quicker than one trapped behind a boiler.

Common Questions

Do you offer free quotes?
Yes, quotes are free with no obligation. Call or WhatsApp and we can discuss the job - for anything straightforward I can usually give a price over the phone, and for larger jobs I'll arrange a site visit.
What area do you cover?
I cover Penzance, St Ives, Hayle, Marazion, Newlyn, St Just, Camborne, and the wider Penwith peninsula. If you're unsure whether you're in range, just call and ask - I'm happy to travel for the right job.
Are you NAPIT registered?
Yes, I'm NAPIT registered - member number 66376. You can verify this on the NAPIT website by searching for Cornovii Electrical. NAPIT registration means I'm assessed annually against industry standards and can self-certify notifiable electrical work, including consumer unit upgrades and new circuits.
Are you VAT registered?
Not currently, which means there's no VAT to add on top of my prices. This may change in the future, but any change would be communicated clearly before work is quoted or carried out.
